The role of Kagamimochi

The other day I wrote that the origin of the kagamimochi is unknown, but I understood that. The old Japanese people were decorating kagami cake, to greet the god who brings fortune.

Since ancient times there are countless gods in Japan, and there are fairy tales that the house that God visited became rich. When God visits each family, the Kagamimochi becomes a temporary residence of the god. Is it like a Pokemon monster ball?

Kagamimochi, 鏡餅

Since ancient times, God lived in the mirror rather than rice cake. But one day it turned into a rice cake.

In the past the mirror was rare and expensive, And when the custom of the upper class spread among people, it may have been replaced by a rice cake that looked like a mirror at the time.
