Friendship where oysters connect

Oysters are eaten all over the world. Even Westerners who do not like raw fish and shellfish, I hear that only oysters are eaten raw.

By the way, around 1970, every oyster was dead in the French farming area. At that time, there is an episode that Japanese farmers in Miyagi Prefecture provided oyster that are resistant to disease, and that French oyster farming has revived. Therefore, the oysters that are currently caught in France are hybrids with species of native origin.

In addition, when the oyster fish farm was destroyed by the eastern Japan great earthquake in 2011, on the contrary, French oyster farmers provided shellfish to help rebuild the industry.

Oysters

Filipinos  eat oysters (Talaba). I have eaten as much oysters cultivated in Liloan in Cebu. Anyway it’s too cheaper than in Japan. Was it 60 pesos per kg?

Oyster cultivation is thriving in Japan as well. September to April is the season. In Japan, a large oyster is also caught, and one may cost hundreds of yen.

And, Japanese eat oysters raw. However, it is limited to those of waters that are suitable for raw eating by water quality survey.

Oysters caught in other areas are sold for heated cooking.

Bad custom

It is said that Japan is an advanced country, but there are many bad customs for Japan. One of them is intolerance.

Last year, a girl student at a prefectural high school in Osaka tried a trial against the school. She lost her physical condition and suffered a disadvantage because she was forced to dye her birth-in brown hair into black from the school. The school said that they make the same request even to blonde international students, too. And Osaka Prefecture also requests the court to dismiss claims.

Female hair

The majority of Japanese hair color is black or dark brown. But there is no reason why all the students should be unified. I can understand that why they ban hair dyeing for their students.  But it is human rights violation to deny what is innate. After all, the school just wants to manage students uniformly. They do not recognize that it is not good for Japanese society.

Japanese are strong against competition based on rules in such as sports or industry. On the other hand, Japanese are not good at newly creating something epochal. The cause is in Japan’s stupid school education. Because many schools require students to have the same idea and personality.

How to buy a train ticket

The railway network is substantial in urban areas of Japan. Also, since Japan is a vending machine powerhouse, we buy a ticket at a ticket vending machine when we ride a train.

鉄道の券売機

Even foreigners will be able to grasp the general usage of ticket vending machines. Because the buttons are divided for each charge, you only have to put in money and press one of the buttons.

Therefore, difficulties for foreigners may understand some of the charges to the destination. The railway fee depends on the distance you got on the train.

The train map is displayed on the wall above the ticket vending machine at the station, but finding it from there is troublesome. For some unfamiliar territory it is difficult for Japanese people. Therefore it would be easier to remember how to use the train guide application on smartphones.

Well, most railway stations have an information desk, so when you ask, a clerk will tell you the fee to the destination.

In addition, we can buy a ticket for the Shinkansen even with a ticket vending machine. However, many people order clerks at windows to negotiate conditions such as seat assignment.

Railway electronic money card

There are many railway electronic money cards in Japan. The most representative ones are SUICA and PASMO, which are spreading in the suburbs of Tokyo. There are similar standard cards in other regions.

Suica

The electronic money card is the same size as the credit card in which the IC chip is embedded. If you charge cash as electronic money on it with ticket vending machines etc., you can use it instead of a wallet at a convenience store.

Also, if you have enough charges, you can ride a bus or train without buying a ticket.

Miniskirt girl student

In Japan, many junior and senior high school students go to school by wearing uniforms. Also, many girls like short skirts. Surely the shorter the skirt is fashionable, and it looks cute.

Moreover they are strong. Because even in the snowing season there are many girls who are exposing bare feet with mini skirts.

But we feel cold when we see them. Please let someone fashionable tights matched with their uniforms as well. Or please design someone’s uniform for girls with fashionable pants

Onsen

There are Home bath, Sento, and Onsen in Japan.

In Japan, it is said that “Onsen will come out anywhere”, as there are many volcanoes. However, it will never become an Onsen place everywhere of Japan. Because mining may fail and we need to dig more than 1,000 meters. Moreover the development and maintenance are costly.

Therefore, there are many Onsen sights in every part of Japan. In the northern part of Kyushu where my hometown, Beppu and Yufuin in Oita Prefecture, Ureshino and Takeo in Saga Prefecture, and Unzen in Nagasaki Prefecture are famous. In Hakone in Kanagawa Prefecture is popular in the place close to Tokyo, there are Onsen anywhere. Of course it is also in Tokyo.

The manner of using Onsen is the same as public bath.

By the way, in Jigokudani in Nagano Prefecture, Japanese monkeys that are soak in Onsen in In snowy winter are famous. They also know how to enjoy Japanese style baths, no one tells it them.

Humans should also try to challenge Japanese Onsen culture.

Sento

If you get used to a Japanese bath, please try to challenge the “Sento(銭湯)” as a next step. Sento is a public bath, It’s a Japanese – style spa. One charge is less than 500 yen.

Sentou, 銭湯

Sento is a service that was born when the housing of Japan was still underdeveloped and there was no bath in each household. Even now, although baths have become widespread, there are many fans of it. Because unlike a family bath, we can enjoy the following experiences.

Large Bathtab

We can soak our body in plenty of hot water and extend our legs.

In addition, swimming and dancing in the bathtub is a violation of manner.

Jacuzzi

We can obtain a massage effect, since bubbles blown from the walls and floor of the bathtub vigorously.

Electric bath

Weak electricity is flowing in hot water in bathtub, we can receive modest stimulus.

Sauna

It is literally a sauna. There is a dried “dry sauna” and a steam filled “mist sauna”.

Cold water bath

It is a cold water bath. Immersed after a hot sauna is effective in restoring fatigue by exercise.

The basic rules of Sento are as follows.

  • We have to use it naked.
  • We wash our bodies and hair ahead of being soaked in a bathtub.
  • When we leave the sauna, lightly wash away sweat with a shower before entering the bath tub.
  • Do not soak your towel in the bathtub.
  • We can rent towels for a fee. Shared soap or body soap, shampoo & rinse type are equipped.

I hear that many foreign countries have no habit of being naked in front of people, except for young children. But if you get used to it you will not mind. Of course, you can partially hide it with a towel.

By the way, in the early 2015, a Sento opened in front of the J Park Hotel on Mactan Island, alongside the Metro supermarket. At that time, I stayed on that island, so I only used it once. But it seems that it was closed after a while. Maybe there were few customers. Because short-stay travelers will not use. Therefore, customers are Japanese English students who stay for a long time or Japanese staff of diving service.
